How to make the most of your Budleigh Salterton trip: dining and activities guide

Budleigh Salterton is one of the quietest, prettiest towns on the Jurassic Coast. Here’s how to spend a day or a week here, and where to eat when you’re done.

The beach and the coast path

Budleigh’s long pebble beach is perfect for a stroll and a paddle. Walk west along the South West Coast Path for cliff-top views, or east to the mouth of the River Otter.

The Otter Estuary Nature Reserve

An easy, flat walk with hides and plenty of birdlife. Keep dogs on leads near nesting areas.

History and culture

Fairlynch Museum, in a thatched house on Fore Street, tells the town’s story. Nearby East Budleigh is the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh, and Otterton has a working watermill.

Where to eat and drink

For a proper village pub with a big garden, come up the road to Knowle. Our kitchen serves Wednesday to Friday from 4pm, Saturday from 12pm and the Sunday roast from 12pm. Dogs are welcome inside and out.

• Plan meals around kitchen times, as many village pubs don’t serve food every day
• Bring a lead for the estuary and check beach dog rules
